Telstra Desktop Messaging closes 9 November. Here's where the inbox goes.

Desktop Messaging did two-way SMS and MMS from a browser. So does BE Messaging — on a real Australian 04 number, with a price in the reply rather than a demo booking.

Telstra Desktop Messaging is being withdrawn. Small business access ended on 10 November 2025, Enterprise accounts have been frozen since 6 August 2026, and the service is removed from the market on 9 November 2026. If your team sends and receives SMS and MMS from a company inbox in a browser, that inbox needs a new home before then. BE Messaging is built to be that home.

The dates Telstra published

  1. 30 June 2025: Telstra Desktop Messaging no longer sold to new customers.
  2. 10 November 2025: Telstra Desktop Messaging withdrawn for small and medium business customers.
  3. 6 August 2026: Enterprise customers can no longer add services or make changes to existing ones.
  4. 9 November 2026: Telstra Desktop Messaging withdrawn from the market entirely. Every remaining inbox stops.

What carries over, and what changes

Sending from a browser stays the same. Replies stop being split by who sent, and the terms get simpler. Replies stop being split by who sent, and the terms get simpler.

One inbox the team works together

Desktop Messaging gave each person a login and split replies between a Company Inbox and a Personal Inbox by who sent. BE Messaging puts the whole conversation in one shared inbox the team can see, assign and answer — in a browser, nothing installed.

MMS in both directions

Send a photo, receive a photo. Real carrier MMS that lands in the message thread, not a link to a web page. Customers text you from the phone they already own.

Your own 04 number

A dedicated Australian mobile number that belongs to your business. Customers text it like any other mobile, calls to it forward to a number you nominate, and it stays yours as your team changes.

Terms you can read

No enterprise contract, no annual commitment. Tell us how many numbers and how many messages a month, and the reply is a price — not a request to book a demo.

What you used in Desktop Messaging, and what it's called here

The habits carry over. Only the names change — and where something isn't there yet, we say so.

Message Templates → Templates

Save the messages you send over and over, sorted into categories, and pick one when you compose. Same idea, same name.

Send Later → Scheduled campaigns

Write a campaign, pick a date and time in your timezone, and it sends itself. One-off at the campaign level; recurring and single-message scheduling aren't there yet.

Mail Merge → Personalised campaigns

Write %name% in a campaign and every recipient gets their own name in the message. Contact name and number today — not arbitrary spreadsheet columns, and we'd rather say so.

Bulk Number Send → Contact import

Upload a list of numbers and names in one go, then send a campaign to all of them or to a group. Quick Contacts becomes your contact list.

Sent Messages Log → Conversation history

Every message sent and received stays in the thread it belongs to, with the reply beside it — not a separate log to search.

XML API → REST API

Anything your systems sent through Desktop Messaging's XML API can send through ours. Modern REST, documented, with API keys you control.

Same job. Different terms.

Everything Desktop Messaging did from a browser, BE Messaging does from a browser — with the number, the terms and the price made plain.

Questions from Desktop Messaging customers

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, ask it in the form below.

Is Telstra Desktop Messaging being discontinued?
Yes. Telstra stopped selling it to new customers on 30 June 2025, withdrew it for small business customers on 10 November 2025, froze Enterprise accounts on 6 August 2026, and removes it from the market on 9 November 2026 — all per Telstra's own Desktop Messaging FAQ.
What replaces Telstra Desktop Messaging?
BE Messaging does the same job — two-way SMS and MMS from a shared inbox in a browser — on a real Australian 04 number. Telstra may point you to its own alternatives; we're an independent option with simpler terms.
Can I still send and receive MMS from my desktop after November?
Yes. BE Messaging sends and receives real carrier MMS — pictures land in the message thread on the customer's phone, and pictures they send land in your inbox.
Can my customers text photos back to us?
Yes. Inbound MMS works on every BE Messaging number. Customers attach a photo in their normal messaging app and send it to your business number.
Do I keep a company inbox and a personal inbox?
You get something simpler. Desktop Messaging routed a reply to a Company Inbox or a Personal Inbox depending on which identity sent the message. BE Messaging keeps every reply in one shared inbox, with the full history, so the team sees the whole conversation whoever started it.
Can I schedule a message to send later?
At the campaign level, yes — set a date and time in your company's timezone and the campaign sends itself. Scheduling a single conversation message, and recurring daily or weekly sends, aren't available yet. If recurring reminders are how you use Desktop Messaging, say so in the form and we'll tell you honestly where that sits.
Do you have message templates?
Yes. Save a message once, file it under a category, and reuse it when composing — the same thing Desktop Messaging called Message Templates.
Can I personalise a bulk message, like Desktop Messaging's Mail Merge?
Yes, by contact name and number. Put %name% or %number% in a campaign message and each recipient gets their own values. It doesn't yet take arbitrary columns from a spreadsheet the way full mail merge does — if you rely on that, tell us in the form and we'll be straight about it.
How long does it take to move?
A single number with a shared inbox is typically live within a few business days of go-ahead. Tell us how many numbers and users you have and we'll give you a date with the price.
Is this a Telstra product?
No. Binary Elements is independent of Telstra. Telstra and Telstra Desktop Messaging are registered trademarks of Telstra Limited, referred to here only to identify the service being withdrawn.
